INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM OF FIGURATIVE ARTS
28 June – 4 July 2010
Knossos Beach Bungalows & Suites will be hosting the International Symposium of Figurative Arts, “In the Light of Crete” from June 28th to July 4th, 2010 in honor of the memory of the hotel’s founder Dr. Sophokles-Emmanu el Logiadis.
This unique symposium will celebrate the compound of two very powerful meanings, that of “Light”, which
in Greek language is figuratively used to embody a source of life, culture, and creativity, and that of “Crete”, an isl and that draws interest not only for its rich history and mythology but also for its contribution to civilization.
Given the
theme “In the Light of Crete”, the participating artists will create paintings and sculptures in their own personal style and engage in cultural dialogues and future quests. Entrance will be free to the public so visitors and hotel guests will have the unique opportunity to speak with the participating artists who have chosen the hospitality of Knossos Beach Bungalows & Suites as their environment to express their artistic inspirations and creations away from their familiar studios.

On Sunday 4 July 2010, the International Symposium of Figurative Arts, “In the Light of Crete” held at Knossos Beach Bungalows & Suites at Kokkini Hani in honor of the memory of the hotels founder Dr. Sophokles-Emmanuel Logiadis, will have been completed.
On that day, we wish to invite you to a whole day feast of art and culture and attend the presentation of the artists and their work, in a closure celebration at 19:00. The entrance will be free and drinks and finger food will be offered to our guests. You are all welcome!

" The ancient olive grove of Crete, in the depth of time..."
The visual arts exhibition entitled “The ancient olive grove of Crete in the depth of time” constitutes an important turning point in the efforts of the Network of Cultural Associations of Crete and the Technological Educational Institute Crete, for the salvation and distinction of ancient olive trees on the island. This is the contribution of artists from Greece and other countries in this great initiative.
Our aim is for future generations to inherit these trees which have been living on Cretan land for hundreds of years, some even from the Minoan period. They are a ncient yet alive monuments above ground, giving their fruit "with reverence" to people for centuries, and even millenniums. It is a great responsibility for all Cretans, to protect the ancient olive trees from public or private construction works.
In this promising effort, people from all over Crete participate, each with their own resources and means. The effort is promising because today, during the crisis in values and the economy, its shows us that there are so many people who believe in collective teamwork (as opposed to individualism), and in the conservation and enhancement of our environmental and cultural heritage. They also strongly believe however in the creativity of modern art!
Yes, Crete and Greece as a whole, can protect and enhance its environment, it can walk in the footsteps of our ancestors, creating a civilization. Its people, as long as they believe in one another, can prove it!
