Olive Oil
Nothing is more characteristic of Crete than the millions of olive trees that grow in valleys and mountainous areas. The olive tree has been cultivated for the use of the olive oil since 3500 BC during the early Minoan period.
The health benefits of olive oil have been recognised by many ancient physicians like Hippocrates, Galen, Dioscorides, and Diocles. In recent years, modern doctors and nutritionists have realised that extra virgin olive oil, in particular, contributes significant nutritional value to human health.

Cretan Herbs and Spices
Crete is a botanical paradise. It is an island with immense biodiversity, hundreds of different native plants and a climate that favours the growing of herbs.
The unique flora of Crete is at its best in the Spring, after the rain showers of the early season. Crete really looks green, and hundreds of flowers, plants and herbs start to blossom. Endemic species alone are estimated to be more than 2000! There are 130 species of wild flowers and herbs unique to Crete. Some of them give us our special aromatic & therapeutic Cretan teas. Those who are interested in this fascinating natural mosaic can take part in tours to selected areas of interest.
